A CALL has been made for improvements to power supplies in Ludlow Town Centre to be completed as soon as possible.

The work is being undertaken by Western Power in Upper Galdeford and Station Road.

“We have traffic queuing in all directions,” said Tracey Huffer, the Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow east who wants the work to be completed as soon as possible.

“People are getting very angry that they are being delayed but no progress is being made. They drive past and they can’t see a single person working.”

Andy Boddington who represents Ludlow North of Shropshire Council says that the work has required diversions to bus routes.

“Town buses are being diverted due to the lengthy delays at the lights,” he said.

The barriers on the pavements by the roadworks make it very difficult for people on motor buggies to get past and the lights sequence makes it very difficult for pedestrians to cross safely.”

Western Power said: “We have overlaid the electricity supply network from Portcullis substation, in stages, across the rear of the car park and towards Station Drive Surgery.

“As we stand now, we have completed about two thirds of the job, we will be reinstating the last few stretches of public highway over the weekend and the start of next week, we are reducing the work areas too, as regards each separate service; what we have left is Station Drive Surgery, the Social Club and the last five houses.

"When all customers have been transferred, we will remove some old switching equipment on the corner of Station Drive and Gravel Hill. We have a permit until March 3 but if all goes well we may be finished a bit earlier”.
