A NEW service tasked with linking charitable organisations with potential volunteers has been launched in the city.

Worcester Community Action is a new charity taking on the vital work the former Worcester Volunteer Centre did in matching up volunteers with worthy causes around Worcester.

The former service fell into financial difficulty after cuts, which led to its closure and now the setting up of Worcester Community Action, which was recently granted charity status by the Charity Commission.

The new service is based at The Angel Centre, in Angel Place, and was officially launched with the help of Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Paul Denham and Mayoress Councillor Lynn Denham, who also cut a cake to celebrate on April 20.

The launch saw organisations looking for volunteers set up stalls, while volunteers attended asking for help to find placements.

Sally Ellison MBE, trustee and vice chairman, said: "We run the service for people who are interested in become volunteers to know where to go.

"There is a gap for this - which is where we now come in.

"We promote and market volunteering, recruiting volunteers and offering a brokerage service to organisations who use volunteers.

"We can provide training in supporting and retaining volunteers, as well as providing DBS checks for staff and volunteers."

Anyone interested in volunteering, or organisation wanting to link up with Worcester Community Action, are invited to call 01905 936751 or email worcestercommunityaction@gmail.com.
