A NURSERY in Hagley has been awarded the county's top food prize for the healthy meals and snacks it serves its children.

Ducklings Day Nursery was chosen as the winner of Worcestershire Regulatory Service's Healthier Choices Food Award for serving fresh, varied home-made meals, full of fruit and vegetables.

Inspectors also praised the Western Road facility's allotment, herb garden and cooking activities, which are used to teach children how food gets 'from farm to fork'.

Nursery manager Alyson Burton said: "We are delighted to have achieved this award and it reflects our whole staff team’s commitment to healthy eating.

"Jan, our cook, has worked really hard to produce delicious, healthy meals for our children and cooks fresh meals for them every day with local and seasonal produce.

"The children are often involved in activities to promote their understanding of a healthy diet, including visiting our allotment to grow their own fruit and vegetables.”

The Healthier Choices Food Award scheme is only open to four or five star food hygiene-rated businesses.
