BROMSGROVE has united after a suicide bomber killed at least 22 people, including children, at a pop concert in Manchester on Monday night.

Election candidates offered their condolences following the tragedy at the Manchester Arena, which injured a further 59 people.

Bromsgrove District Council also showed their support by raising its flag at Parkside at half-mast.

Conservative candidate for Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid said: “Appalling, barbaric attack.

“Thoughts with those killed and injured, their families and admiration for our brave emergency services.”

Labour candidate Michael Thompson, who is originally from Manchester, said: “The people of Manchester are strong and will support each other through this tragedy.

“My thoughts are with everybody affected by this tragedy.”

Bromsgrove Liberal Democrat candidate Neil Lewis, who revealed his daughter’s friends were caught up in the attack, added: "Terrible news.

“Our thoughts and our prayers are with those caught up in this dreadful attack."

Green party candidate Spoz said: "I offer my sincere condolences and staunch solidarity to the people of Manchester.

“This is a time for coming together and remembering there is far more that unites us, than divides us. We will not let the hateful few divide us."

Leader of the council Geoff Denaro added: “Our thoughts are with the people of Manchester who are showing their true colours in dealing with the aftermath of this despicable act.”

All party’s have suspended general election campaigning as a mark of respect.
