AN author has talked to students about his book.

Kevin Brooke visited Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College to speak with students in year 7 about his book Jimmy Cricket.

The book tells of a troubled boy who finds help with the support of a Cricket Club for bereaved young people.

Mr Brooke engaged the students immediately with constant references to cricket and using cricket terms throughout to involve everyone.

Students asked questions about the author's love of sport, in particular, cricket and rugby, and also about his writing.

They also discussed alternative endings for parts of the book that Kevin read out, using Cricket signs to vote for their favourite.

Kevin and the students shared an exciting hour together, talking about the strong issues that are covered in the book, such as bereavement, peer pressure, first love, and how Jimmy, the main character, could overcome these. The event was organised by the College Librarian, Linda Bromyard, who said: β€œThe students were stimulated throughout the session, through both the love of reading and sport – a winning combination.”
