EXCITEMENT is gathering in Evesham for the town's annual carnival this Saturday.

The line-up includes a parade through the town, face painting, a play bus, fairground rides and a drawing competition.

A beer tent and a vintage team will be open with food stalls and charity stalls open, there will be live music during the evening.

Crown Meadow opens at 9.30am for floats and stalls to be set up before the food festival and Crown Meadow opens at 11am to the public.

At noon, floats will be judged before the Footsteps for Lewis charity raft rowing race at 12.45pm until around 3pm.

The carnival queen handover takes place at 1.15pm with 12-year-old Teigan Koorts chosen as this year's queen.

At 1.30pm the presentation for the best float will take place before the carnival procession at 2pm beginning at Crown Meadow.

Musicians will perform from 4pm with tribute artists to Michael Buble, Cher, Gary Barlow, Elvis and Whitney Houston singing.

Ahead of the day crafty members of Evesham Ladies Circle have been hard at work cutting, painting, stitching and gluing as they apply the finishing touches to the carnival queen's carriage.

Travelling at Teigan's side during the procession will be the carnival princess, 10-year-old Lauryn Carter along with the queen’s attendees Abigail Goodge, 6, Rosie Freeman, 6, Lara Clements, 7, Daisy Allford, 5, and Freya Bonham, 8.

This years’ event is expected to be one of the biggest Carnival processions that the town has seen with 20 floats and more than 150 walking participants confirmed to be singing, dancing and entertaining the crowds as they pass through Evesham town centre.

2017 will be the first year that Evesham Ladies Circle has played an official part in the organisation of the town carnival since the women-only social group was re-launched in July 2016.

*Please note today's Evesham Journal (Thursday, June 22) wrongly stated the carnival would take place on Sunday but it is actually being held this Saturday.
