EMBROIDERY, felt making, quilting and fabric printing will all be turning the Red House Glass Cone blue as new exhibition by Tangent Textiles is launched.

The blue-themed pieces form the first ever exhibition by the West Midlands members at the historic Wordsley glass site.

‘Out of the blue and other stories’ features landscapes, textile columns, mandalas and wearable artwork – including fascinators – which had previously been on display at the Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch show at the NEC in March.

Pieces by the group, which works in a range of techniques, including hand and machine embroidery, fabric painting and mixed media, include Rhapsody in Blue by Pauline Barnes, featuring delicate 3-D blue flowers which project and flow from the canvas and Under the Sea by Hazel Wagstaff complete with coral fronds, quilted stones, silky fishes and marbled ocean.

Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for planning and economic development, added: “The cone excels at showcasing the artistic talents of groups from across the borough, the midlands and beyond.

“This exhibition features some really beautiful pieces and shows the remarkable skill of all the members who have transformed simple fabric into works of art.”

Artists include Carolyn Bradburn, Jacqui Cotterill, Margaret Fairhead, Mary Christodoulou, Una Smith and Kathryn Morris.

The exhibition runs at the council-run site, which is open for free between 10am and 3pm weekdays and 11am until 4pm at the weekends, until Sunday, August 13.
