TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Stourport UKIP councillor who passed away last night (December 12).

John Holden served as a councillor on Wyre Forest District Council, representing the Mitton ward between 2004 and 2012, and again between 2014 and 2015.

He also represented Stourport-on-Severn on Worcestershire County Council and was a serving Stourport Town Councillor for the Stour and Wilden ward.

Councillor David Little, chairman of the district council, said: "Everyone at Wyre Forest District Council was saddened to hear the news today.

"John was very well known in the local community for his dedication to the people of Stourport.

"He will be sorely missed.

"We send his family and friends our sincere condolences at this very sad time."

Councillor Martin Stooke, deputy mayor of Kidderminster and UKIP colleague, added: "It is with sadness that I learnt of the death of my fellow UKIP councillor, John Holden.

"John joined our party after leaving the Conservatives, bringing with him experience and knowledge of political procedures which helped us to get five councillors elected to the Wyre Forest District Council.

"He was also very much involved in fundraising and the day-to-day running of the party, but also supported our social events.

"On a personal level, I shall miss him for his friendship and help he gave me on council matters. May he rest in peace."
