A COUNCILLOR has been sworn in as Wyre Forest District Council’s chairman for the fourth time in his political career.

Councillor Stephen Williams, was made chairman at a full council meeting on Wednesday, May 23 and takes over from Councillor David Little.

He has been a councillor for almost 20 years and currently represents Wyre Forest Rural. He was previously chairman in 2005-2006, 2008-09 and 2014-15.

Councillor Williams will represent the district at functions across the region, including community and charity events and formal openings.

He will also chair council meetings and work to raise money for charity – with Kidderminster Hospital League of Friends being selected as his chosen good cause.

He said: “I have really enjoyed all my terms in office as chairman and it’s a great honour to be given the opportunity to take on the role again. I will endeavour to be a good ambassador for both the council and district.

“I chose to raise money for Kidderminster Hospital League of Friends as it is a charity very close to my heart.

“During my previous spells as Chairman, I would speak at their annual meetings and I got to see first-hand the great work they do. They really are a lifeline for patients in need.”

Councillor Ken Henderson, who represents Areley Kings and Riverside, will be Vice Chairman for the municipal year.

Organisations that would like advice on inviting the Chairman to attend an event should contact the Chairman’s secretary, Karen Walsh by email karen.walsh@wyreforestdc.gov.uk or call 01562 732708.
