DESPITE the road and rail closures around Worcester, there are no reports of congestion on roads leading to and from Worcester this morning.

Bus replacements have been laid on for rail users, and this morning's 8.20am bus from Malvern to Worcester encountered no heavy traffic on its journey into the city.

Worcestershire Highways is advising that the best road access is via the A4104 through Upton, where roadworks in connection with gas supply improvements have been halted to allow traffic to flow freely.

The closures are to allow a new bridge to be put into place as part of the dualling of the Southern Link Road. The road is closed between the Whittington and Norton roundabouts.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain in Worcestershire, lasting until the end of Sunday, with the highest chances of rainfall in the early hours of Sunday morning until about 5am, and then later in the day from 9am, lasting for the rest of the day.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Barbourne Brook in Worcester, although it says levels on the brook are now falling.

"Levels are expected to continue to fall today, but heavy thundery showers are possible later which may cause the levels to rise again," it says.
