CATSHILL's community is helping brighten up the village by clearing out unloved areas and replacing them with plants.
As part of the 'Catshill Growing' project, children will begin planting around their schools and by the Spar on Golden Cross Lane.
Woodvale county councillor Shirley Webb has obtained divisional funding for schools to help with the project.
Spar have also contributed to the cost of clearing and their volunteers will work with the children to start planting next week.
Children from Chadsgrove School dropped by to the Golden Cross Lane site with Spar staff on June 11 to help clear an area next to the shop.
Cllr Webb, whose ward covers Catshill, said: "I am so pleased to see the local schools involved in Catshill Growing working closely with the local Spar to brighten our beautiful village up.
"Next year we are hoping to take part in the “In Bloom” competition working with the parish council.
"The children love to take part and are excited to star planting."
Children have already started planting at school and will be making some pots for the Village Hall.
Catshill First and Middle Schools are also involved and will be making pots for the library and school areas.
