Despite the fact The Old Rectifying House is a favourite watering-hole amongst present and former Worcester journalists, Pub Spy was yet to sample its tasty delights.

So, being in the mood to be impressed PS headed down to North Parade on a Friday lunchtime to grab a bite to eat.

On this occasion, to work up an appetite, PS chose to walk to the pub but is pleased to say the venue is located next to a large carpark.

Walking inside, PS was pleased to be greeted by a friendly bartender who quickly confirmed that food was being served.

After providing a menu to browse over, she then took my order – a large glass of cola and a halloumi burger, consisting of tempura battered halloumi cheese, leaves, avocado and coriander pesto served with chips but healthier customers can opt for salad.

PS is an omnivore and does enjoy trying vegan and vegetarian food – you name it, PS will give it a try.

After just five glorious minutes, the meal was ready – the fastest service PS has ever experienced (outside of Wetherspoons and McDonald’s).

But ‘what did it taste like?’ I hear you ask – well it was delicious. Much better than expected because quite often halloumi is overdone and squeaky – and no one wants squeaky cheese.

The chips were actually lovely and appeared to be hand cut, cooked to a lovely golden brown colour.

The bread was soft and the cheese crispy and melting in the middle.

The menu had a lot of options for vegans and offers an extensive selection of appetisers, starters, main courses and desserts.

The cola was cold and refreshing. A nice touch was the fact the waitress brought a jug of water on PS’ arrival. Often you have to ask and it is nice for it to be provide automatically. I also liked that the napkins were a step up from the usual paper affairs as it adds some class.

The drink was expensive at £3.50 but the burger was a fair price at £9.50.

Perhaps the sugar tax is to blame.

One thing that can become a little irritating is the busy road outside, because when larger vehicles pass the restaurant the whole room goes dark for a few seconds. Completely unavoidable I know but a distraction nonetheless.

The Old Rectifying House name comes from the fact that the rear of the building was part of the Williams distillery.

The stylish pub has quirky decor, lots of character and a modern fine-dining area with riverside views overlooking Worcester bridge.

Although it was a little breezy to sit outside, before leaving PS took a quick look at the impressive beer garden which is a great spot to meet friends on a nice sunny day.

The bar has an extensive cocktail, gin menu and a good selection of beers.

PS would certainly recommend The Old Rectifying House for its great food and attentive staff.

Seafood lovers will be excited to know that on Thursday, June 21, the restaurant is holding a seafood only menu with a huge variety on offer. For more information, go to theoldrec.co.uk.
