A BROMSGROVE opticians has reached a milestone in its appeal for donations of unwanted specs for charity.

The team at Specsavers on the High Street have been collecting unwanted glasses from generous residents in Bromsgrove since last year.

And their appeal has now hit a magic milestone after the 2,000th pair of glasses was collected for optical charity Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).

Bromsgrove store director Mark Gibson said: "We’re delighted to have collected such a huge amount of specs and we’d like to thank the community for getting behind the appeal.

"VAO carries out important work to help support those who don’t have access to the range of healthcare services that we do in this country.

"There’s still a way to go, so we’re also encouraging locals to continue to support us in our collections and drop their old specs that might be lying about the house into store."

The donated specs will be recycled by VAO and the money raised by selling the recycled materials will support the charity’s work providing eyecare to people in deprived areas of Africa.

The process is environmentally friendly and enables the charity to fund its overseas projects.
