A HALESOWEN College student has had the experience of a lifetime by securing an ongoing work placement at a major Canadian company.

Earlier this year, business studies student Joseph Frost competed against more than 100 other young people for the chance to work at the multi-national law firm Gowling WLG.

As a holiday to Canada was already planned, Joseph took the opportunity to apply for the placement. He was one of only 12 applicants to be successful and has even been offered more work experience closer to home.

Initially, Joseph was placed in the Vancouver office and worked in a variety of different departments including marketing, business development, IT and accounts.

He concentrated on the legal side of the company during his first placement and is now looking forward to turning his attention to the business side.

Joseph said: “It will be exciting to find out more about the business side of a multi-national company, particularly as this is an area where I want to pursue a future career.

“I would think to thank Gowling WLG for potentially helping to open doors and future opportunities for me.”

A spokesman for Halesowen College said: “The college is committed to giving students the best opportunities for work experience as it forms a valuable part of their course programme.

“Like Joseph, all students are supported by specialist staff and their personal tutors when making their applications.”
