HAPPY Feet Fitness runners and walkers have completed the Worcester Stands Tall Safari Walk for St Richard's Hospice.

Worcester based Happy Feet Fitness is a running group that was formed in 2015, when founder, Marie Tyrrell got the all-clear from breast cancer.

Mrs Tyrrell, 56, decided to leave work and spend more time doing the things she felt passionate about - spending time with family and friends, helping others and keeping fit.

Mrs Tyrrell and her 31-year-old daughter, Rhiannon Eling, who is a qualified fitness instructor, combined their enthusiasm for running and created the running group.

“We know just how difficult it can be to make those first steps towards becoming more active, our style is fun and informal so that everyone feels comfortable,” Mrs Tyrrell said.

Since the giraffe sculptures have arrived in Worcester on July 9, Happy Feet Fitness have enjoyed spotting them around the city during their walks and runs.

The group organised a fundraising safari on August 12, which 38 people attended. The aim was to find all the giraffes over the six-mile course. They plotted out a 10k route with a meeting point for the 5k runners and a 2.5k route for the walkers.

Mrs Tyrrell, who successfully ran all the way around the course, added: “It was a perfect way of getting a run in.

“We stopped at every big giraffe for a photo and read about who had designed them. We even took the highroad to see the plinth of ‘Diversity Is Us’ at Fort Royal Park. Our runners blasted up the hill and may have had a moan or two on the way up, but it was worth it to show our support.

“We love being active, from walking to running and we also enjoy a chat and a treat too. Once we had finished the event all 38 of us stopped for tea and cake.

“We all enjoyed our safari and raised just over £200 for the brilliant cause.”
