A MAN accused of throwing acid at a three-year-old boy in Worcester has been refused bail by a judge who described the attack as horrifying.

Adam Cech, 27, charged with conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, did not appear at the bail hearing at Worcester Crown Court earlier today.

However, judge Robert Juckes QC refused the defence’s application for bail made on his behalf. Cech stands accused of throwing concentrated sulphuric acid at the boy in Home Bargains at the Shrub Hill Retail Park in Tallow Hill at around 2.15pm on Saturday, July 21. The boy was taken to hospital with serious burns to his arms and face.

Judge Juckes said: “That is an offence that has horrified all those who have read about it and shocked those who have heard about it even at a time when there’s a good deal of crime in this area including extreme forms of violence.”

He described case a 'extraordinary' as both an attack on a three-year-old boy and because it causes ‘such outrage’ in the community.

Cech is next due to appear at Worcester Crown Court on August 28 for a plea and case management hearing alongside the boy’s 39-year-old father, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, Jan Dudi, 25. From Handsworth, Birmingham, Norbert Pulko, 22, from London, Jabar Paktia, 41, an Afghan national of New Hampton Road, Wolverhampton.

CCTV footage of the attack has now been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service, the court heard.
