A TALENTED Malvern St James Girls’ School pupil has served up a superb start to the season.

Taking inspiration from the international success enjoyed by Laura Robson and Heather Watson, 12-year-old Georgina Cupper has jumped in her age group rankings from 34th to 17th nationally.

She has been selected to play for Herefordshire and Worcestershire under 12s and 14s at the 12 Counties Championships in Corby next month.

Following a victory over the two counties’ number one seed, Cupper has moved up to a 6.2 rating from 7.1.

She continues to train through the year at Manor Park, Malvern, and also at Virgin Active, Gloucester.

Malvern St James headteacher Patricia Woodhouse said: “Georgina is definitely one to watch on the court this season.

“We are very proud of all her achievements, on and off the tennis court.”

Albert Road North-based Manor Park have teams competing at county and national level.
