Success for Wilde pair in Stableford

WINTRY conditions restricted The Worcestershire’s mixed better-ball competition to 12 holes with a lower attendance than usual.

Club captain Jim Wilde and his wife Di took first place with 26 stableford points, winning on a count-back from Elsie and Ralph Kelsall.

Third were Isobel and Charles Carmichael with 24.

In county competitions, The Worcestershire’s ‘A’ team of three pairs progressed to the Droitwich Shield Scratch Foursomes semi-finals by beating Kings Norton 2-1, Dudley 2-1 and Gaudet Luce 3-0. The ‘B’ team were less successful, beating Droitwich but losing 3-0 to Fulford Heath.

In the Kiddermimster Cup Scratch Foursomes for seniors, The Worcestershire beat Redditch ‘B’ and Gay Hill ‘B’ 2-1 but lost 3-0 at Fulford Heath.

Meanwhile, despite poor weather, the ladies at the Malvern Wells club completed all four rounds of their winter league. The fourth was won by Kate Foster with 29 points, ahead of Hazel Cartledge with 28 on countback from Jen Bishop.

With the three best scores counting from the rounds, the overall winner was Cathy Harris with a total of 113. Bishop (103) second and Cartledge (93) third.

Thirteen-year-old Lucy Walton, the current club champion, played her first overseas event at Hacienda del Alamo, Murcia, Spain, finishing fourth with gross scores of 82, 81 and 81 in the women’s competition.
