THE Mud Runner Icebreaker was true to its name as competitors tackled frozen swamps and muddy tracks in the toughest challenge to date.

Hundreds of athletes completed a gruelling duathlon in the Eastnor Castle grounds of a 10- kilometre and 3km run sandwiched by a 20km bike ride.

Winners Matt Page and Vickie Wilkinson were previous ironman competitors and showed grit by finishing three to four minutes ahead of their nearest rivals.

Many competitors raised money for charity.

The next Mud Runner is the Dirty Weekend in June which is a 10km mud-filled obstacle race over two days.

Results, men: 1 Page two hours 16 minutes 11 seconds, 2 Alex Lewis 2.20.21, 3 Jon Mansfield 2.25.36; women: 1 Wilkinson 2.52.30, 2 Sarah Barber 2.55.12, 3 Elsa Knoertzer 3.06.41.
