Panniers and Abel star for Colwall

COLWALL are now well clear in second place in Division Two of the Worcestershire League after crushing Stourport by seven wickets.
Stourport were restricted to 167 as Max Backhouse (3-25), Jack Knight-Adams (3-43), Michael Gooch (2-15) and Jacob Rodgers (2-25) all bowled well.
Skipper James Abel (40 not out) and Nick Panniers (37) then led the way as Colwall cruised home with plenty of overs to spare.
Colwall’s cause was helped by Wormelow’s conclusive win over third-placed Bewdley.
The villagers also cruised to a seven-wicket success with Jamie Banfield (65) and skipper Ben Owens (51) in good form with the bat.
Meanwhile, Colwall seconds crashed to a 125-run defeat at Pedmore in Worcestershire League Division One (Second XI).
Batting first, Pedmore posted 268 all out, with David Brassett the most productive bowler for the visitors, taking 4-76.
In reply, Colwall were skittled out for 143 in the 30th over.
Pedmore’s Chris Bourne tore through the Colwall batting line-up with 7-55.
Only Daniel Newby (27nd Brassett (20) put up any resistance as the Herefordshire side fell to defeat.
Elsewhere, Canon Frome remain in pole position to finish in top spot in Woercestershire League Division Six after seeing off Netherton thirds by seven wickets.
Skipper Andy Lloyd (4-41) was Frome’s most successful bowler as the home side were bowled out for just 106.
Mark Godsall (30no) was the leading batsman in the visitors’ reply but they were helped by 54 extras, of which 37 were wides.
