Malvern crash to leaders Lye
8:50am Tuesday 20th August 2013 in Sport
FIFTH-placed Malvern lost by four wickets at Worcestershire League Division Three leaders Lye.
The visitors batted first on a difficult wicket and made a sound start before Ollie Bendall (12) was dismissed.
Andrew Cullen and Anthony Arnold then fashioned a useful partnership which ended when the former was out for 28. Arnold looked to be continuing his recent good form until he was adjudged lbw for 20 and his dismissal at 100-4 brought about a collapse which saw the last six wickets fall for just seven runs.
Malvern had no answer to veteran spinner Mohammed Ishtiaq who took 7-17 from 12 overs.
Rob Perrins immediately bagged a wicket and continued to bowl a superb spell which saw him take 5-42 and reduce the hosts to 60-6.
But, despite a few alarms along the way, Lye put together an unbroken, match-winning partnership of 51 for the seventh wicket.
