MALVERN’S VC Sevale were just pipped in the interclub time trial series’ second round involving hosts Evesham Wheelers and Worcester St John’s.
Five members travelled to Elmley Castle, near Pershore, for a technical circuit with many tight bends and plenty of sharp climbs that caught a few riders out.
Sevale’s on-song Jez Pile led Sevale home and won the race overall in 37 minutes 59 seconds.
Wheelers’ Simon Wix was a close second in 38.21 followed by club-mate A Bolton in 39.14.
Mike Amery was the second Sevale rider in 39.23 and Ed Dursley proved to be the fastest St John’s man in 40.41.
The overall club result was tight with Wheelers’ combined time of two hours 44 minutes 24 seconds just edging out Sevale by four seconds with St John’s third in 2.54.34.
Meanwhile, due to roadworks in Callow End, Sevale took to their alternative time trial course and raced two laps of the Hanley Swan 5.5- mile circuit on a pleasantly warm evening.
Pile continued to enjoy fine form, recording another club win in 24.30 with Amery riding fixed in second place on 25.27.
St John’s member Gerry Nicholls was third in 25.38 followed by his Worcester club-mate Dave Fenton in 26.19.
Sevale’s Steve Price and partner Phadra Bushby rode the event as a two-up, recording 32.59 and adding a new club record to the books in the process.
