Carp and chub win for Green in Malpas
9:40am Wednesday 11th September 2013 in Sport
MALVERN United fished their Malpas Cup contest at the Bean Farm, a pool in farmland halfway between Worcester and Kidderminster.
A sudden overnight drop in temperature seemed to put the fish off the feed and all competitors struggled to catch regularly although they had at least one goodsized fish each.
In his first match of the season, eventual winner Phil Green caught carp and a chub of 3lbs on pellets in a total of 13lbs 11ozs.
Second with 10-4 was John Shaw with an all-silver fish net of chub, roach and skimmers on bread flake.
Third-placed Richard Gilks managed the two best carp of the day to total 8-12 although he lost a bigger one that could have won him the match.
Graham Rees managed 7-13, Jon Gilks 7-12, Richard Webster 6-7, Ian Goddard 6-0 and Chris Loveridge 5-3.
