Grimshaw strikes as Badgers seal win
5:10pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Sport
LEIGH and Bransford Badgers Spurs almost squandered a two-goal lead, but hung on for a 3-2 win over Westbury Celtic Juniors in Mercian League Under 14s Division One at Alfrick Playing Field.
The Badgers broke the deadlock when a good throwin from Dan Scott sent Ross Grimshaw free down the right and his cross was steered home by Matty Cole.
On 20 minutes, the Spurs extended their lead to 2-0 when full-back Hayden Bell found Grimshaw, who cut inside and crossed for Sam Hawthorn to drill home.
However, just before the break, Celtic rallied and a long ball caught the home side on the retreat and the visiting striker calmly slotted home to reduce the arrears.
After the interval, Westbury continued to press and duly levelled after 55 minutes, with another well slotted strike.
Almost immediately after the re-start, the Badgers took a 3-2 lead.
A fine pass out wide by Dan Medakovic was headed on by substitute Simeon Nelson in to the path of Grimshaw, who unleashed a thunderous 20-yard strike that fizzed into the far side of the net.
- The L&B Badgers men’s side crashed out of the Worcester and District League’s Bernard Finnegan Cup at the first round stage.
The Badgers suffered a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Blackpole Sports.
Sports went 2-0 up before Nick Medakovic pulled a goal back, but the visitors sealed the tie with a third.
