MALVERN United fished their first match of the new year at Fishponds, Colwall.
Heavily-coloured water after plenty of rain earlier in the week followed by a sharp overnight frost made fishing conditions unproductive and all competitors struggled to get bites.
Eventual winner Dave Wilkes was lucky enough to tempt three bream and a carp on maggots to weigh in 6lbs 12oz.
Some way behind in second place was Dave Stretton, who caught a surprise tench to manage 1-11, while Graham Rees had a couple of skimmers to finish third with 1-6.
Ian Goddard and John Shaw caught small fish but did not weigh in.
