WELLAND let out their frustrations after nearly a month off with a commanding 8-0 win at Tivoli Rovers.

The victory after the Christmas and weatherenforced absence boosted the villagers’ Cheltenham Association League Division Three title hopes.

Welland are fourth in the table but only four points off leaders Cheltenham Patriots with two games in hand.

With the Tivoli game played on a 3G artificial surface, it was a great opportunity for a fine passing display and the visitors did not disappoint.

From the first whistle, the hosts could see they were in for a long afternoon as Welland kept the ball and created several early chances that went narrowly wide.

Tivoli could not get out of their own half and the inevitable happened on 25 minutes when top-scorer James Lush outpaced the full-back before squaring for Mark Taylor only for a defender to turn the ball into his own net.

The second followed shortly after when Ben Pearson’s deep cross was put back across goal by Tim Lewis for Jordan King to head home.

The second-half started in a similar fashion to the first with Welland relentless in attack and they were rewarded with a third when Omar Elmougy smartly turned his man and unleashed an unstoppable 25- yard drive.

Elmougy added his second with a smart left-footed finish following a strong run before turning provider when he found King in the box to make no mistake from close range. Lush was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet when fine work saw his shot come back off the post before Lewis made it six.

His initial strike was blocked before coming back for the winger to make no mistake second time around.

Neat play from Pearson and Taylor resulted in the latter releasing Elmougy, who ran on and fired home to complete his hat-trick.

Jon Williams rounded off the scoring when Ryan Dunn and Lewis combined to play him in and cap an excellent all-round performance.

Welland visit second-placed Fintan tomorrow (2pm).

Second-from-bottom Hanley Swan slipped deeper into Division One relegation trouble with a 3-0 defeat at Gloucester Elmleaze, while Upton Town’s visit to Butlers was postponed.

Bromyard Town’s West Midlands League Premier Division home clash with Lye Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
