MALVERN St James’ year 10 team won the Independent Schools Association tournament at Cannock.
Eight schools took part and the St James girls played fine hockey, scoring 51 goals in total.
They did not concede in their first four matches, beating Lucton 5-0, Bowbrook House 8-0, Chase Grammar 10-0 and Bedstone ‘B’ 10-0.
St James played Bedstone ‘A’ with both sides unbeaten and the match ended 1-1, bringing goal difference into play.
There was an eight-goal deficit so the pressure was on the Malvern girls to score a lot of goals.
Against Highclare, they clinched an overwhelming 13-0 win to put them in much stronger contention for the title.
St James had to beat Dixies Grammar by more than Bedstone could register and rose to the occasion with a 5-1 success, taking the title by just one goal.
