MOEEN Ali is keeping his feet firmly on the ground even though his international career is on the brink of taking off.

The impressive Worcestershire all-rounder, who was named as the Professional Cricketers’ Association player- of-the-year last season, has been included in the 30-man provisional England squad for the World Twenty20.

That squad will be whittled down to 15 ahead of March’s tournament in Bangladesh, but Moeen also has an England Lions tour to Sri Lanka to look forward to.

Moeen said: “It has been a good start to the year - hopefully 2014 will be big for me and I can repeat what I did last year. You never know where that can take you.

“Last year was a good season for me, but that is done now and I always try to look forward rather than back - every training session is important to me.

“It is nice to have been rewarded and to have that experience, however, I would prefer to have done less personally but to have done something as a team with Worcestershire.

“Winning the PCA playerof- the-year award last season and being one of just four Worcestershire players to win it meant a lot to me, as does being from Worcester and representing them.”

The Lions tour to Sri Lanka takes place in February and March and Moeen, 26, should be well placed to impress having had previous stints playing first-class cricket there.
