THE fifth and final round of Malvern United Anglers' winter league matches was fished at Fishponds, Colwall.

Once again, storms during the week and overnight rain caused the pool to be heavily coloured from the influx of floodwater that made fish reluctant to feed.

But, fortunately, weather conditions were good for the period of the match.

Afterwards, Dave Wilkes won the overall league with 18 points, leaving Chris Loveridge second on 12 with Ian Goddard in third place on 10.

While most competitors struggled to catch just a few small fish, eventual final-round winner Loveridge tempted bream, including a specimen of more than 4lbs caught on waggler-fished worms and casters, for his winning weight of 9lbs 5oz.

Second-placed Wilkes included smaller skimmers in his weight of 5-10, while junior Ben Dennis showed his potential with a weight of 2-0.

Graham Rees managed 1-7, Goddard 1-0, Graham Hill 0-15, Richard Webster 0-14, Graham Matthews 0-10 and John Shaw 0-7.
