HANLEY Swan ended a string of narrow defeats with a valuable point from a 0-0 draw at Star Reserves in Cheltenham Association Football League Division One.

The windy conditions did not help either team and both had opportunities to score in the first-half with Adam Webb and Ryan Bird close for Hanley.

But poor finishing from Star and a solid display from stand-in keeper Andy Smith kept the score level at half-time.

The second period saw Hanley continue to play with a good team spirit as man-of-the-match and full-back Josh Wring and centre-half Adam Sauntson did particularly well.

James Newland went close and Mark Wright hit the bar but Hanley had to settle for a draw and remain bottom of the table on goal difference.

Hanley host Newton tomorrow (3pm).

Meanwhile, Upton Town lost 1-0 at high-flying Falcons and entertain leaders Charlton Rovers tomorrow (3pm).
