A BRIEF break in the wet weather enabled Bransford seniors to play the fifth round of their winter stableford league.

Ferey Ghani (14 handicap) led the way with 43 points to win Division One by one from Mike Weaver (20) with Lee Dyment (19) third on 41.

Further behind, Ted Buckett (18) managed 39 points, Alan Wallcroft (21) 37 and Bob McGrath (16) 35.

In Division Two, the consistent Roy Mayo (23) recorded another win with 42 to narrowly pip Neil Sheldon (22) on 41.

John Burrow (27) scored 39, Roger Steade (25) 37, Martin Saunders (23) 36 and Paul Edlin (26) 35.

The stableford event was held over the course’s back-nine holes only due to the wet weather.

The man in form was Bill Bowen (18) with a fine haul of 19 to take top spot in Division One.

The nearest challengers were Graham Wilks (17), who was just one behind on 18, George Batty (19) 17, Gerry Rebbeck (14) 16 and McGrath and Roy Williams (20) 16.

Division Two went the way of Dick Bettsworth (25) with 16, who just edged out Mike Holmes (28) 15.

Sheldon was third with 15, ahead of Burrow, Steade and Cynthia Holmes (30), all on 14.

Meanwhile, the inter-club winter league involving four teams boiled up to an exciting finish at Burlish Park, Stourport.

Wharton Park finished with 27 points from four events and Burlish 26, while Bransford had 23 and Little Lakes 20.
