MALVERN Town are determined to finish the season on a high with a strong conclusion to their league and cup campaigns.

The Langland Stadium side have five West Midlands Football League Premier Division games left and host Shifnal Town tomorrow (3pm).

Town can still secure a top-10 place but have played more games than their immediate rivals.

Les Jones’ 14th-placed team are still chasing silverware on three fronts in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Trophy and the Worcester Infirmary Senior and Minor Cups.

He said: “We are going to try and win all five league games we have left," said Jones. "We are capable of winning all of them if we play to our potential and want to finish the season on a high.

“The team have got better as the season has gone on and we have been on the up since Christmas. We are still in three cups so have things to play for and players need to prove themselves for next season.”

Malvern have endured a mixed week, losing 4-0 at Wolverhampton Casuals last Saturday before but bouncing back with recording a 4-1 home victory over Bustleholme on Wednesday.

After going one down, Louis Loader levelled the scores at half-time before two goals from Dave Reynolds (pictured right) and one from Lee Hooper sealed the points.

Jones said: “It was a poor first-half display but we went on to win. It was one-way traffic in the second period.

“Last Saturday’s match was difficult because we were playing the fourth-placed team in the league and had players out.

“We played really well in the second-half. Lots of teams would have been steamrollered trailing 3-0 at the interval, but it wasn’t until late on that we conceded the fourth.”

Striker Reynolds is unavailable against 17th-placed Shifnal through outside commitments, as is defender Mark Saysell.

Defender Jamie Thomas completes a two-game ban. Midfielder Joe Leighton is still struggling with a knee injury but could return for the following weekend’s visit of Cradley Town.
