LEDBURY Rugby Club’s hopes of finishing in the Midlands Three West (South) top two suffered a painful blow with a 41-7 thrashing at second-placed Old Yardleians.

The Ross Road side are now 13 points off their weekend opponents but still sit comfortably fourth in the table despite a fifth league defeat of the season.

Ledbury return to action on April 5 at home to Pershore.

Meanwhile, Newent suffered an even rarer loss as their unbeaten 22-game unbeaten run came to an ended at third-placed Whitehall.

The 10-6 away defeat left them second in the Gloucester Premier Division, four points behind leaders Bristol Saracens, ahead of tomorrow’s home game with lowly Painswick.

Whitehall’s big pack proved crucial and the hosts scored a converted try after prop Lee Warren was sin-binned.

A penalty for either side made it 10-3 at half-time before Ross Webb added another for Newent in the second period.
