TELEVISION star Omid Djalili said he is not prepared to let Hereford United go out of business.

The stand-up comedian is putting on two shows at the city's Courtyard tomorrow to raise money for the cash-strapped Bulls.

United, who host Woking at Edgar Street today (3pm), face a winding-up order in the High Court on Monday over an unpaid HM Revenues and Customs bill of £78,000.

Fans have been rallying round to raise the funds and Chelsea supporter Djalili is doing his bit for the cause.

“I have seen Hereford play and I think every football fan has Hereford United and Ronnie Radford in their hearts,” said Djalili, who is a season ticket holder at Stamford Bridge.

“My production manager Shaun Weager is from Ledbury. I had a number of tweets from fans about saving Hereford United and I saw one from Shaun.

"I have known him since 1995 and stayed in touch with him and he’s a smashing lad.

“I can’t let a grassroots club like Hereford United go out of existence and, rather than make a donation, I wanted to give my time for free because it means so much more."

He continued: "When my first show sold out within 24 hours, I said I would do another one in the afternoon.

"I love football and, although I am 48, I still play veterans’ football. There is a lot of football stuff I will do tomorrow and it will be a football-heavy show.

"Chelsea are my local team and I am a big fan of people supporting their local team."

Djalili, who has appeared in films such as The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean, added: “We are also taking bids for me to wear a Hereford United shirt.

"But I am worried - white is not a flattering colour for man of my size so I might wear black for the second-half.”
