WILL St Leger-Chambers was the hero with his maiden century as Hanley Castle and Upton beat Stourbridge thirds by four runs.

He also bowled the final visiting batsman with the opposition needing two to win with three balls left in Worcestershire League Division Five.

The game started at a more sedate pace with Ollie Price (34) and Chambers (101) playing steadily on a slow but true wicket.

Their first-wicket record stand of 177 was broken with Price run out and Chambers quickly followed after notching up his century.

But Danny Powell (22) helped the score along to 223-4 off the full 50 overs.

Rain came at tea and Stourbridge were set 221 to win from 48 overs.

With just nine players due to last-minute unavailability, Hanley had to bowl and field well to contain Stourbridge's strong top order.

Alex Spence (33) and Tom Westwood (44) were particularly stylish but Todd Mathews (2-35) captured the latter, who edged behind to Nick Bentley.

Rich Foley (2-27) came on to bamboozle the batsman with his spin bowling.

Shaheel Khawar (33), and Irfan Ahmad (18) pushed the score along but Chambers bowled both batsmen.

He was ably supported by Price (1-34) and skipper Chris Duckworth (1-52) before Chambers spectacularly ran out Alex Coleman.

Chambers (3-41) then bowled the final over and dismissed Heran Patel (27) to win the match as Stourbridge were all out for 219.
