JACK McIntosh gets his first XI chance when Barnards Green host county rivals Bromsgrove tomorrow (noon).

The Malvern side dropped from top to fourth in the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League Division One table with a defeat at new leaders Ombersley.

Green hope to bounce back against another high-flying county outfit after the five-wicket loss.

But they must do it without former Bromsgrove player George Rhodes, who is sidelined with a hip injury, and regular opener Adam Dovey.

McIntosh is called up from the second XI and Mark Hooper will also cover.

Green lost at Ombersley despite a century partnership between Jamie Tapper and Ash Brewer in their 215-9.

Andy Ford lost the toss and the visitors batted first with the bowlers capitalising on an inconsistent pitch.

Dovey (0) fell to Ted Baylis, while Chris Harwood took early wickets as Alex Hepburn (1) nicked behind and skipper Ford (1) chipped to cover.

With Green on 25-3, Tapper and Rhodes struggled against uneven bounce and good bowling.

Jason Smith bowled Rhodes (16) and the run-rate slowed further.

Elliot Hennessy (14) fell lbw and Tapper and Hooper (2) took the score to 74 before the latter was run-out.

But Brewer and Tapper adopted an aggressive style with Green on 84-6 and 16 overs left. The century partnership came off 10 overs.

Brewer was caught off Duncan Catterall for 56 off 34 balls, including 12 fours.

Tapper was dismissed off the last ball of the 50th over from Catterall. His patient 72 included nine boundaries.

Ombersley openers Tom Oakley and Liam Gwynne hit 35 off the first four overs.

The score reached 111 before Green broke through with Gwynne (59) caught by Hooper off Ford and Oakley (39) pouched by Tim Williams off Rhodes.

Jon Dovey (3-44) took quick wickets, trapping Smith (18) lbw and forcing Marcus D’Oliveira (3) to edge behind.

He had Bayliss (19) caught by Hepburn but Ombersley needed just 36 off 12 overs.

Catterall (35 not out) and Harwood (22no) carried them home on 218-5 as Green could only claim five points.

Meanwhile, Green seconds visit Bromsgrove tomorrow and the first XI head to Halesowen on Monday in the Worcestershire T20 Knockout Cup second round.

On Sunday, Green’s annual six-a-side tournament features 10 local sides competing from 10am through to around 7pm.
