BARNARDS Green seconds bagged their first win of the season against fellow strugglers Eastnor in Birmingham and District Premier League Division Two South.

The hosts, buoyed by a good performance the previous weekend against Stratford, lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

Openers Tom Banks and James Scullion started confidently with several early boundaries.

The partnership was broken on 69 with Scullion (26) trapped lbw off Steve Howie.

England women's youth international Georgia Hennessy got off the mark quickly with two boundaries but change bowlers Mahaaz Ahmed and Matt Brindley slowed the run-rate.

Although Green reached 100 in the 20th over, Banks (36) then fell to a Brindley catch at mid-on off Mahaaz.

Hennessy (27) was dismissed lbw off Mahaaz (2-26) to leave Green on 129-3 but Roger Thompson hit out on his way to a half-century.

League debutant Robert Wilson (8) edged a Sam Beale ball to wicketkeeper Nick Thorpe, ending a valuable 60-run partnership.

Thompson was bowled by Tom Hurrell (3-40) for 57 off 70 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, but captain Lewis Hooper and Monzur Ahmed pushed Green on.

Hooper brought up the 200 with a six off Beale and Monzur (7) also found the boundary only to be caught by Brindley at long-on.

Hooper hit two more sixes before he was caught and bowled for 28 off 14 balls.

Tanbir Ahmed (15no) and Shane Thompson (21no) carried Green from 230-7 with four overs left to a hefty 274-7.

In reply, Shane Thompson started with a wicket maiden as Scott Roberts edged to Hooper at slip for a duck.

Beale (10) blasted two fours but misjudged a delivery from Scullion and lofted the ball to Wilson at mid-off.

Mahaaz and Josh Emery took Eastnor past 50 before new bowler Hennessy started with a wicket maiden, bowling the latter for 19.

Hurrell (10) hit two boundaries but holed out to Roger Thompson at mid-on.

Eastnor slipped to 72-6 as Hooper had Martin Loveridge (2) caught by Banks and Amjad Mahmood bowled first ball.

The key wicket was of teenager Mahaaz as Hennessy (3-33) bowled him for 31. With the score on 80-7 with 23 overs left, more wickets fell.

Hooper tempted Brindley (1) into driving to Hennessy at short cover and Monzur had Howie (27) caught by Banks.

Thorpe and Richard Runciman needed to last 19 overs but only managed five more when Hooper (4-32) had the former caught for nine.

Eastnor were bowled out for 127 in the 37th over, giving Green a deserved 24 points to take them above their lowly rivals in the table.
