THE Worcestershire's club champion Jason Allies continued his stellar season by lifting the prestigious Sunday Cup with a nett 65 to reduce his playing handicap from four to three.

Nick Smith (handicap six) was his nearest rival with 67 at the Malvern Wells club, ahead of senior golfer Barry Caswell (9) on 68.

With a maximum stroke allowance of 20, players were mainly drawn from Division One.

However, sterling efforts were made by Division Two’s Andy Fleming (13), who carded 67, and Division Three’s Jerry Hibbert (22) with 69.

Steven Lane (+2) managed a gross 69 to equal Allies.

Meanwhile, the Bronze Division’s Laura Speers recorded 42 stableford points to take the ladies' Jack Campbell Cup, three clear of Corinne Mills with 39.

Ann Garner achieved 36, ahead of Joan Herbert (35) in the Bronze Division, while June Jones and Ruth Scott followed Mills home in the Silver Division with 35.

The Copper Division was won by ladies’ captain Faith Tubb, followed by Maureen Riley and Isobel Carmichael.

Division One’s John Whitehead took the mid-week medal prize with nett 68 off a handicap of 15 from Ian Belsham (69-10).

New member David Wood (17) secured Division Two ahead of Nigel Mills (22), both with 71.

In club matches, dignity was restored for The Worcestershire with fine wins.

Under the temporary captaincy of Allan Davies, the men's 'B' team beat The Herefordshire 4½-1½ at home.

Winning pairs were Davies and Chris Jolley (2&1), Mike Sterry and Tony Rogers (4&3), Len Coleman and Gary Eames (2&1) and junior Josh Marshall with newcomer Paul Parnham (5&4).

Neil Bogart and Trevor Cox halved their match, while Nigel Teale and Pete Jolley lost one-down.

On a hot summer’s day, The Worcestershire’s mixed team responded to disappointing results with an emphatic 8½-1½ win over Lilleybrook.

Home winners were Jill and Brian Piner, Vivienne Marsden and Chris Price, Sally and Andrew Dare, Isobel and Charles Carmichael, Anne and Malcolm Garner, Doreen Hunt and Mike Dobel, Brenda and Trevor Cox and Di and Paul Meakin. Liz Pool and Peter Hill halved.

A ladies’ scratch team lost 4-1 at Redditch.
