MALVERN Town hope their fine start to the new season will be rewarded with a good crowd at their newly-refurbished stadium.

Les Jones’ side have hit the ground running in the West Midlands Football League Premier Division with back-to-back away wins, thrashing Cradley Town 5-0 last Saturday and triumphing 3-1 at Bewdley Town on Tuesday.

Tomorrow, they take on Wellington Amateurs (3pm) at the HDanywhere Community Stadium, which has been renovated over the summer as owners Chris Pinder and Ted Grizzell continue their club makeover.

Jones said: “Hopefully, we will get a decent crowd and a lot of people will come to look at the ground and the new team.

“It’s been a good start. I was delighted with the win on Saturday and to follow it up was a superb result.

“I have been impressed with the attitude and work ethic and we have played some good football as well.

“It’s great to be at home and we are in good form and playing with a lot of confidence.”

Bryan Craven scored twice and Lee Hooper added a 30-yard screamer in the victory at county rivals Bewdley.

But Malvern will be without six players for the visit of Amateurs with Louis Loader (knee) and Jamie Thomas (back) injured. Kirk Layton, Harry Wickett, Dave Reynolds and Joe Leighton miss out through holidays.

Jones added: “We have worked hard this summer to get a stronger squad and that will be tested this weekend.

“Until we get to September, we won’t know the strength of the opposition and then we can judge where we are in the pecking order.”

Play was cagey at Bewdley but Malvern went ahead in the 36th minute through Craven from the edge of the box.

Craven met Chris Parker’s cross with a diving header and Hooper added a free-kick on 49 and 73 minutes respectively before Bewdley pulled a goal back via Dan Flowers.
