ORGANISERS of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Awards are hoping for a final nomination push by the deadline of noon next Friday.

Last year’s event, organised by the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, was attended by more than 250 local sports clubs, coaches, volunteers and athletes, as well as local businesses and authorities.

"The awards is a chance for us all to recognise and reward the hard work and dedication in sport on a local level," said Stephen Brewster, director of the partnership.

"Those who give up their time to make a positive impact on sport, young people and our local communities, are invaluable.

"That’s why we are so passionate about ensuring these individuals receive the credit and honour for their efforts.

‘We’ve already received a great number of nominations, however, there is still time and so we are desperately urging people to go online and register their nomination at morthansport.com/sportsawards before next Friday."

The award categories are:

Senior Male / Female Sports Person of the Year

Junior Male / Female Sports Person of the Year

Community Coach of the Year

Community Club of the Year

Junior Team of the Year

Disabled Sportsperson of the Year

Volunteer of the Year

Young Volunteer of the Year

Unsung Hero

Community Project of the Year

BBC Newcomer

The sports awards ceremony will be on Tuesday, November 4, at Worcester Warriors' Sixways Stadium.

Brewster added: "We look forward to welcoming and rewarding our local sporting heroes at this year’s awards.

"Recognising sporting achievements and celebrating good practice within the sporting community is at the very heart of what we do and – along with all those who will be present on the night – we will be championing the hard work and talent that exists within Herefordshire and Worcestershire."
