MARTIN Field was dominant in The Worcestershire’s midweek medal.

The Division Two player reduced his handicap from 18 to 16 by carding nett 66, which was four strokes ahead of his nearest rival Tom Howells.

Following one-handicapper Howells home in Division One were Simon Clayson on nett 71 off a handicap of 11 and Andrew Bird (72-10).

John Williams (74-17) was second in Division Two, ahead of Ian Jukes (76-19).

Meanwhile, the ladies’ section individual knock-out reached its 36-hole climax with a win for all-round sportswoman and tennis guru Jane Poynder.

Having taken up golf only in recent years, Poynder needed all her technical and match skills to take on the quietly determined Veronica Shaw.

Having been three-up after the first 18 holes, Poynder continued to produce some steady golf.

With Shaw failing to handle the greens, the victor soon increased the margin in the second round to take the title and lift the prestigious Perrins Cup.

A good entry of 44 pairs took to the Malvern Wells course to compete for the Alan Courtney Cup.

Playing a greensomes stableford format, club stalwarts Len Coleman (handicap 22) and Gary Eames (13) saw off all opposition to lift the trophy with 42 points.

Andy Dunster (6) and Jason Allies (3) secured second from Steve Kerry (11) and Mike Morris (21) with both pairs recording 40.

In club matches, there was fine weather for a mixed match at home to Minchinhampton.

The visitors fielded a strong team but The Worcestershire won 6½-5½.

Successful pairs were match captain Jill Piner and her husband Brian, April Wilding and Andy Greene, Jenny and Colin Jones, Anne and Malcolm Garner, Brenda and Trevor Cox and Di and Jim Wilde.

A half by Isabel and Charles Carmichael ensured yet another win for the mixed team.

Stand-in captain Barry Schofield led the ‘B’ team at Worcester Golf and Country Club but the visitors were defeated 5-1.

Similar fortunes befell a ladies’ team when they lost at Kington 3½-½.

But team captain Jill Piner said the team enjoyed their day on a picturesque Herefordshire course.
