DENNIS Flanagan showed a clean pair of heels to the rest when he won Malvern’s match on the River Severn at Holdfast.

He secured the best weight of the season in a river contest, landing bream and roach to weigh in at 19lb 4oz.

Flanagan drew fancied peg one at the top of the stretch, using open-ended feeder tactics with a special mix ground bait and loose-fed caster.

Ian Goddard continued his good form, pushing the winner with 17-8 of feeder-fished skimmer bream and roach from peg 12.

Richard Webster followed in third place from peg two with a respectable 7-8 mixed bag of skimmers and roach.

The back-up weights were also good with Chris Loveridge managing 5-8, Jon Harcourt 5-0, Dave Wilkes 3-9, Graham Rees 2-12, John Barr 2-12, John Shaw 1-5 and Graham Matthews 0-8.

The club’s Severn stretch has started to recuperate after the floods of 2007, which ruined fishing. Bream, barbel and roach are now showing, especially to pleasure anglers in the week.
