LEDBURY Under 17s were beaten 41-5 by fellow high flyers, Kidderminster, with Ben Shimwell scoring the consolation try.

The difference between the two sides was clear as Kidderminster were well drilled and have talented ball carriers in all positions.

Ledbury too possess quality players but have, up until now, triumphed over lesser teams despite some obvious handling frailties.

On this occasion the mistakes proved costly and their kicking game was cruelly exposed by Kidderminster’s superior tactical awareness.

There were a few bright moments for Ledbury in this otherwise disappointing performance.

Ben Stevens again looked impressive and Ellis Ward and Cameron Hunter, if given enough ball, demonstrated how dangerous they can be in open play.

However, Ledbury were not able to secure adequate possession, to provide them with the ball they desired. Also, until the final quarter of the match, when Kidderminster’s efficient use of the catch and drive from the lineout became an influential feature, Ledbury’s defence was heroic.

But the visitors were out-gunned in most facets of play, particularly at the lineout and in the decision-making.

Despite playing with plenty of spirit and determination, Ledbury were outplayed.
