COLWALL and Malvern earned their first win in three West Clubs Women’s League Severn Division One games.

The fifth-placed ladies saw off fourth-from-bottom Badgers 4-0 at Malvern College.

Emma Hughes and Becky Lewis were creative early on and first XI debutant Ellie Blannin was unlucky not to put the hosts in front.

The deadlock was broken in the 20th minute when captain Sammie Shail drove through and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.

Colwall and Malvern got their second when Emma Hughes linked up well with Katy Langley to hit a well-struck shot into the corner.

Hughes got her second when driving through the defence to sneak the ball past the keeper before half-time.

The home side were pinned back for much of the second period.

But the defence were strong with fine saves from keeper Jenny Shail and last-ditch tackles from Nicky Harvey and Bill Bennett.

Colwall and Malvern finished off a fine display with Sammie Shail converting a penalty corner.

The seconds lost 3-1 at home to their Bourton and Sherborne counterparts in Division Three.

With several new players and a fresh formation, both teams defended well in a fast-paced game.

Bourton scored first but Erica Abbey crossed for debutant Henrietta Bullock to level at the far post.

Neddy Pritchard and Abbey controlled midfield and Chloe Williamson shone at sweeper but Bourton added two more goals to triumph.
