PROMISING Worcestershire leg-spinner and Malvern College pupil Ben Twohig has earned his first England Under-17s call-up.

The talented teenager, part of Worcestershire’s 2014-15 academy intake, has been selected in the squad to face Pakistan in Dubai in February.

He has been part of the Under-17s super-fours regional side, which is part of the ongoing selection process for the England development programme run from Under-16s to Under-19s.

Twohig has already made his breakthrough into the Worcestershire Second XI, having previously represented the county at Under-14s, U-15s, U-17s and U-19s level.

He played in two Second XI Championship matches last summer against Leicestershire and Yorkshire, and a Second XI Trophy match against Leicestershire.

In addition, Twohig featured in two three-day friendly matches at the end of the 2014 season against Northamptonshire at Kidderminster and Hampshire at New Road.

Worcestershire academy coach Elliot Wilson rang the praises of Twohig, who originally hails from West Yorkshire.

Wilson said: “Ben has had an outstanding summer.

“He has not looked out of his depth and done himself proud.”

Twohig reported with the remainder of the 2014-2015 academy intake to undertake their winter schedule at Malvern College.

He will hope to follow in the footsteps of another Malvern College product in Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

Kent-born Kohler-Cadmore, 20, was a regular member of the Worcestershire side that won promotion to Division One of the LV= County Championship last season.
