TESTING conditions made the scores in Bransford seniors’ stableford winter league round all the more commendable.

Trevor Atkinson led the way in Division One with 38 points followed by Bill Bowen (35) and Gerry Rebbeck (34).

Roy Mayo edged out Andrew Jarvis in Division Two by one after a return of 39. Third was Ken Jones (35).

The seniors also staged a stableford event off the white tees.

Mike Weaver (19 handicap) was back to form with 38 points to clinch Division One from Roy Williams (20-35), Ferey Ghani (14-33) and Ian Hamilton (12-33).

Trevor Atkinson (14) had 32 and wife June (16) managed 31.

Division Two produced a win for Jarvis (28) with 36, six clear of nearest challengers Roger Steade (26), Martin Saunders (24), Dave Miller (22) and Malcolm Bradley (28).

Another stableford competition, this time off the yellow tees, saw the steady Ghani ahead in Division One with 39 points.

He finished four in front of Charlie Payne (13), Lee Dyment (20) and John Phillips (20), while George Batty (20) totted up 34.

Two other players who have hit a spot of form led the way in Division Two.

Steade just clinched first place on 39 from Jones (22-38), Peter Harrison (24-37), Bradley (22-33) and Rob Wetton (22-33).

The seniors’ Friday roll-up competition was marked by a hole-in-one.

Bowen achieved the ace, the second he has managed, on the 164-yard, par-three 13th. He used his driver due to the damp, cold and breezy conditions.

The ball landed just short of the pin and had enough forward momentum, despite the soft conditions, to finish up in the cup.

Their Friday gatherings, with three-man teams and varying rules, go towards the winter race to Bransford competition.

Points are awarded for placings, which come into play in the competition finale shortly before the summer season.

The latest winners on 83 were Bradley and John Hunaban along with a phantom score.

They were just one point ahead of Andy Falconer, John Hadley and Alan Wallcroft on 82.

Meanwhile, the latest round of the four-team winter league involving Bransford saw hosts Burlish Park take the honours.

Bewdley’s Wharton Park will hope for a home win when they stage the final round at their course on February 19.

The third leg at Burlish featured 48 players — 12 from each club — taking part in pairs better-ball matches with a maximum of 12 points available to each of the teams.

Burlish scored eight followed by Little Lakes (7), Wharton Park (5) and Bransford (4).

Lakes top the league with 22 ahead of Wharton (18), Bransford (17) and Burlish (13).

The four teams will meet again for the presentation day and winter championship finale at Bransford on March 12.
