VERSATILE back Ryan Mills says Worcester Warriors have room for improvement and don’t need to get sucked into an open game.

The 22-year-old has been outstanding in comprehensive Championship wins over Nottingham (58-3) and Rotherham Titans (49-10).

Exeter-born Mills has caught the Sixways supporters’ imagination since moving to fly-half from the centre.

“In parts, we played really well against Rotherham, which backed up the way we played against Nottingham,” said Mills.

“But, also in parts, we were pretty poor and there’s a lot of things we can work on. There were a lot of changes in the 50 to 60-minute mark when other teams, perhaps, start throwing caution to the wind and are chasing the game.

“We can get sucked into that and the game tends to get quite loose. We seem to give other sides a lot of opportunities and miss out on quite a lot ourselves.

“We don’t need to get sucked in and I think that’s an area we need to tidy up.

“We left quite a few chances out there against Rotherham — it was positive in many aspects, but there was still quite a few aspects we can still work on.”

The former England Under-20s centre, whose early progress at his former club Gloucester was hampered by a knee problem, is enjoying life at Sixways.

“I played a lot of rugby at ten, mainly when I was at Gloucester,” said Mills. “I played most of my games at ten in the Premiership last season.

“I just enjoy being on the pitch, whether it’s ten or 12, whatever is best for the team or the coaches. I am happy either way.

“I am enjoying playing again. My body feels great and I have had no reaction from any of the games.

“I feel like I am in a really good place and starting to chuck together a few games on the bounce. I am starting to show I have got a bit of durability, which is a huge confidence boost for me.”

Warriors visit Bedford Blues today (3pm) and Mills believes it will be a good encounter, recalling: “Bedford were very sharp when they played us at Sixways.

“We had a good 40 minutes, which got us clear, but, for the rest of the game, they were competitive. We have to make sure we are right on the money against them.”
