MALVERN Town will hope the FA Vase can provide a welcome distraction from a poor start to their West Midlands Football League Premier Division campaign.

Les Jones’ side lost their fifth league match in the first six fixtures in a goal feast at the HDanywhere Community Stadium on Tuesday night, going down 4-3 to sixth-placed Wolverhampton Casuals.

Malvern are second from bottom in the table with their three points earned through a 6-0 thrashing of current basement boys Tipton Town last month.

After a 5-0 defeat in the FA Cup first stage 5-0 to Sporting Khalsa, Town aim for better in the Vase first qualifying round at Shifnal Town tomorrow (3pm).

The Shropshire hosts are unbeaten in fifth spot in the table.

Against Casuals, Town hit back after conceding two early goals to make it 2-2 at half-time and then 3-3 in the second period only to concede a winner to a free-kick five minutes from time.

Lee Hooper, Matt Turner and Lewis Platt scored for Malvern, who had midfielder Reece King sent off following a late melee. Casuals had two players red carded.

Malvern host seventh-placed Cradley Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).
