MUCH Marcle racing driver Ben Davis is set to make his debut in the Renault UK Clio Cup championship at Silverstone this weekend.

As part of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) event, the 22-year-old has attracted backing from haulers ABE (Ledbury) Ltd.

ABE managing director Andy Boyle said: “I am delighted to be involved in helping Ben Davis with his ambition to advance his racing career.”

The Renault UK Clio Cup has a long history of producing future stars and regarded as the feeder series to the BTCC.

There is no doubting the competitiveness of the drivers in the championship, many with years of experience, but this does not seem to deter Davis.

He said: “I am hoping to show potential at Silverstone, it is a huge opportunity for me and I have to thank Andy for believing in me.

“It will only be my third ever car race weekend and I have only driven the new Clio once, but this just adds to the excitement.

“I have a lot of guests coming and I hope to put on a good show; I am using it as a springboard to attract more sponsors in order to race in the series in 2016.”

Italian super team Rangoni Corse will be running Davis for the weekend.

All the action can be caught live on ITV4 on Sunday.

Race one is at 12:35pm.
