THE Worcester and District United Anglers’ Association Championship final round produced a dramatic result as long-time leaders Phoenix tied with their closest rivals for the overall title.

Phoenix came out on top on the day with 15 points ahead of the second-placed Worcester Match Group on 16 and winter league specialists Greenman on 17.

Despite coming fourth in the round, Barnards Green did enough to tie with Phoenix overall. Both teams recorded the same six-match total of 94, while third went to Alans Tackle on 101.

Individually, Chris Senter (Alans) scored his second series win by making good use of his peg on the marina entrance.

He netted bream to 3lb and a few big perch on caster offered into the centre channel for a weight of 14lb 11oz 13dr.

The runner-up from the fancied brambles peg at Perdiswell was Tim Biddle who, despite losing a big fish, put one carp and three chub weighing 11-14 with all his fish falling to double caster on stout tackle.

Paul Wilson (Barnards Green) secured third prize with 5-10-4 of perch and rudd from Perdiswell.

Section winners were Bob Patrick (3-11-7), Kane Woodfield (4-0-11), Les Sanders (4-15-2) and Keith Hunt (3-6-5).

Anthony Primaverina made a rare appearance locally to win the Whitehall AC fur and feather on the club pool at Broadheath.

On peg 12, he used punched bread on the pole to net a brace of carp along with silver fish for a winning 17-11.

Second was club star Dave Warren, who lost a big carp late on but bagged second with 12-12 from peg 19.

An ounce behind came Derrick Stephens with a peg four catch of 12-11.

Fourth was Richard Oliver, who took 11-14 of carp and silvers from peg 17.
